After ten years of unmatched success, Pep Guardiola has said he will depart Manchester City at the end of the current campaign. He claims that Man City “needs new energy.”

After announcing his departure from Manchester City, he stated he intended to take a break and insisted he would not be working again for some time.

The former Barcelona player Josep “Pep” Guardiola was born on January 18, 1971. The Spanish village of Santpedor is the origin of the Catalan coach.

Many people consider Pep Guardiola to be Manchester City’s most successful manager ever. He has made the team a strong force in English and European football since taking over in 2016.

Notable accomplishments at Manchester City

During his ten years at the club, Guardiola won over twenty major trophies.

He guided City to several league victories, including six Premier League crowns, and the first-ever four-year run from 2021 to 2024.

In 2020–21, he led City to their first-ever Champions League final, and in 2022–2023, they won their first Champions League trophy after defeating Inter Milan in the championship game.

In the same season, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League, a historic Continental Treble (2022–2023) that was previously only achieved by Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in English football.

Guardiola strengthened City’s domination at home by winning several FA Cup victories.

Under his leadership, City won four League Cups in a row (2018–2021), setting a record for English football.

In 2023, City won both the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup after winning the Champions League.

In 2017–18, he smashed multiple scoring, possession, and winning-run records in England and had the first-ever 100-point Premier League season in English top-flight history.

Guardiola’s use of possession-based football, intense pressing, and tactical adaptability transformed Manchester City’s style of play. Additionally, he helped players like Rodri, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Kevin De Bruyne become elite stars.

Before joining Man City

Guardiola managed FC Barcelona from 2008 to 2012, during which he won 14 trophies. Barca won two Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns, two Copas del Rey, three Spanish Super Cups, two European Super Cups, and two World Club Cups when he was in charge. The squad won an unprecedented La Liga, Champions League, and Copa del Rey treble in 2008–09.

After joining Bayern Munich in 2013, Guardiola won the Bundesliga three times, including twice at home. In 2016, he departed the team to join Manchester City.

Unparalleled achievement

The best time in Manchester City’s history is widely regarded as under Guardiola. His achievements transformed contemporary football strategies in England and abroad and made City a global football powerhouse. Manchester City announced monuments in his honor, including a statue and stadium stand.

Enzo Maresca is expected to succeed him after a diligent search by the club.
