The 30,000-seat Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has sold out for the first time thanks to Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido. Davido’s current 5ive Tour’s Nigerian leg included a performance at Uyo. Following the triumphant North American leg of the tour, the event, which attracted an enormous number of supporters, was his first significant home performance. He remarked, “I’m blessed to perform all around the world, and everywhere I go, Nigeria goes with me. But this time, I’m bringing it home. This one’s for the culture. This one’s personal. This one’s for us.”
Davido made courtesy calls to the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, at Government House in Uyo before the performance. The expansion of entertainment, young engagement in the creative industry, and Akwa Ibom’s expanding ability to organize high-profile events were the main topics of the visits. The musician came to the state with his team, which included Cubana Chief Priest, a nightlife promoter, and his manager, Asa Asika.
Davido claimed that Akwa Ibom was selected to host the first leg of the tour due to the state’s high caliber of facilities and its expanding reputation for holding major entertainment events during a pre-concert reception hosted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State.
He claimed that the choice to start the tour in Uyo was well-considered and founded on the resources available in the state. Davido claims that while he was exploring Africa, he saw five locations, with Akwa Ibom at the top of the list. He was searching for a decent facility in Africa after a successful tour of America, and Akwa Ibom was one of the locations he discovered.
He was beginning at Akwa Ibom’s standard facility for that reason. In addition, Davido said that the state has promise and lovely qualities, and that traveling across the nation would be simpler if other states had the same standard of infrastructure. He expressed his excitement for the Akwa Ibom visit.
Governor Eno was commended by Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his leadership and encouragement of youth development during his speech. As he continues his tour both inside and outside of Nigeria, he urged Davido to bring Akwa Ibom’s up-and-coming talents with him, pointing out that his impact has helped mentor young potential. Akpabio was thrilled that the 5ive Tour was starting in Uyo. “I’m happy Davido started the tour in Akwa Ibom, we have the facilities and we have entertainment-loving people,” he stated.
In his remarks, Governor Eno expressed gratitude to Davido for motivating young Nigerians with his music and work ethic. He cited the singer’s ascent as proof of what hard work can accomplish. He expressed gratitude to the music icon for motivating the next generation and advancing his career, showing young people that anything they set their minds to can be accomplished.
According to the governor, Akwa Ibom is a state that welcomes young people and works to foster their abilities. He expressed gratitude to Davido for performing with some of their local performers, encouraging them to hope to follow in his footsteps in the future.
DJs kept the environment lively before Davido’s stage appearance, and many people started to arrive hours before the event, filling the stadium grounds and singing along to his songs. Nasboi and Cubana Chief Priest also performed during the event, energizing the crowd before Davido took the stage.
The audience roared his name as Davido took the stage to thunderous applause. He sang popular songs like “With You,” “Aye,” “Unavailable,” “Feel,” “Holy Ground,” and his breakthrough smash, “Omo Baba Olowo.” Fans enthusiastically raised their phones and yelled the words word for word in response to each song. The stage lights, live band arrangement, and general performance quality were compared to Davido’s North American tour, and fans characterized the evening as electrifying and unforgettable.
On October 29, the 5ive Tour resumed in Yola. It will proceed to Enugu on November 1 and Ibadan on November 9. It is anticipated to conclude with a spectacular homecoming performance in Lagos on December 25.
