On November 2, 2025, an icon of reggae, one of the biggest and most well-known musicians, Jimmy Cliff, passed away. In the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, he was the dominant figure in the reggae music scene.

Additionally, he played a gun-wielding rebel in the seminal Jamaican film “The Harder They Come” (1972), which is generally acknowledged for having helped make reggae popular all over the world.

Jimmy Cliff was an actor, singer, songwriter, and reggae and ska musician from Jamaica. A few of his well-known songs are They Harder They Come, Many Rivers to Cross, You Can Get it If You Really Want, I Can See Clearly Now, Reggae Night, Wonderful World, Beautiful People, and Sitting in Limbo.

He was born James Chambers on April 1, 1944, in Somerton, St. James, Jamaica, and is considered one of the most influential figures in reggae music, second only to Bob Marley in terms of global influence.

His accomplishments include being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, receiving Jamaica’s third-highest national honor, the Order of Merit, and contributing to the globalization of reggae.

Cliff’s death was announced by his wife, Latiffa Chambers.
