Only a few days after Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani celebrated the release of 183 worshippers who had been kidnapped by terrorists in Kajuru Local Government Area, terrorists once more kidnapped a Catholic priest and ten other locals, killing three people in a new attack on the Karku community in Kauru LGA.

Reverend Father Nathaniel Asuwaye, the parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, was reportedly abducted along with the other victims early on Saturday morning, according to confirmation from the Catholic Archdiocese of Kafanchan.

Residents described the incident, which happened at around 3.20 am on Saturday, as a well-planned assault by highly armed terrorists who invaded the village, fired intermittently, and took their victims away.

Very Reverend Father Jacob Shanet, the Diocesan Chancellor, issued a statement in which he expressed his profound sadness for the occurrence and asked for prayers for the victims.

The parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Karku, Kauru LGA, Kaduna State, Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye, was abducted, he stated, “with great sadness, brothers and sisters in Christ.”

In addition to praying for those who perished in the attack, the diocese asked priests, Christians, and good-willed individuals to pray for the safe return of the kidnapped victims.

In addition to those who were kidnapped, the incident led to the deaths of three other people: Mr. Jacob Dan’azumi, Mr. Maitala Kaura, and Alhaji Kusari.

Reverend Joseph Hayab, the Chairman of the Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), responded to the development by calling it disturbing and cautioning that despite attempts to stop the threat, kidnappings are still becoming more frequent.
