Only four or five days after the initial significant outage on January 23, Nigeria’s national energy grid crashed once more on Tuesday morning, January 27, 2026. A nationwide blackout resulted from the system failure.
At the peak of the outage, all 11 distribution companies reported no supply since electricity generation and load allocation reached zero megawatts.
Officially, this is the second grid failure in 2026; the first one occurred on January 23, 2026.
Although restoration work started soon after the outage, several areas experienced power disruptions until supplies gradually returned.
Only a few days after the grid’s initial collapse in 2026, this most recent failure demonstrated the ongoing instability in Nigeria’s electrical system at the beginning of the year.
