The dispute started when several accusations against Pastor Chris Okafor appeared online in the middle of December 2025. Okafor serves as the Senior Pastor at Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries.
Doris Ogala, a Nollywood actress, accused the pastor of having a long-term sexual relationship with her that began in 2017. She said he exchanged graphic content, breached marriage vows, and helped her previous marriage fail.
On December 28, 2025, Okafor reportedly spoke to his church amid the mounting public criticism, apologizing for previous “mistakes” and kneeling at the pulpit to ask for forgiveness.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, Chris Okafor, the senior pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, has turned himself in to the police after being accused of several rapes and other offenses that could have disturbed the public peace.
The development follows Okafor’s failure to respond to a police invitation on the allegations on Monday, January 5, 2026, even though the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, had invited him on Sunday.
When Okafor was invited, he informed the police through his attorney that he would appear on Monday, January 5, 2026, according to Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh. He ordered Okafor’s arrest after Okafor failed to appear on Monday. He then appeared on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The case has been moved to Zone 2 for additional investigation, Jimoh continued.
“We later learned that the same matter had been opened at the Zone 2 headquarters with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, which I needed to verify, and I verified the same.
“And he told me the matter is being investigated under his command for about three weeks now.
“So, the AIG occupies a higher office than mine as a commander and is my immediate supervisor since he’s into the matter. So, we handed the matter back to the Zone,” he explained.
Actress Doris Ogala has accused Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, of sexual misconduct, abuse of authority, murder, and breach of marriage promise.
Okafor has refuted these accusations, calling them false, malicious, and part of a concerted effort to ruin his reputation.
Speaking at a news conference in Lagos on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Pastor Okafor’s attorney, Mr. Ife Ajayi, denied the accusations and charged Ogala and a few social media influencers with planning a protracted media campaign against the preacher for personal gain.
“Our client is a Nigerian clergyman and a private citizen. We strongly condemn the repeated media attacks against him, which have been driven by malicious falsehoods,” Ajayi stated.
According to Ajayi, the dispute started on December 13, 2025, when Ogala turned to social media to make what he called baseless and outrageous accusations against Pastor Okafor. Bloggers and online commenters then spread these claims without conducting the necessary due diligence.
“Our client is a law-abiding citizen. He approached the Nigerian Police Force to investigate these allegations, even before Christmas. If the police conclude that these claims are baseless, we will ensure that everyone involved faces the full weight of the law,” Ajayi warned.
The actress had previously claimed in 2015 that Pastor Okafor owed her N45 million, but the lawyer said the claim was unsuccessful since it could not be verified.
“When those demands did not succeed, she escalated the narrative, alleging that our client was responsible for the death of her late brother, and later insinuating involvement in murder and other serious crimes,” Ajayi said.
According to Ajayi, Ogalla later reappeared on the eve of the cleric’s wedding, purportedly contesting the union and making new demands based on allegations of a previous connection, including a desire for property and financial compensation.
He insisted that Ogala seemed to be experimenting with various narratives “to see what would stick in the public space,” characterizing the series of accusations as methodical and organized.
“In all the court records and settlement documents, there was no mention of any affair, sexual relationship or misconduct. These are verifiable facts, not opinions,” Ajayi stressed.
“These allegations have resulted in threats against our client, his wife, and members of his household. That is unacceptable in a civil society,” Ajayi insisted.
Ajayi further said that the campaign grew more intense after Ogala allegedly collaborated with Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, a social media personality, and other blogs and platforms to call Pastor Okafor a serial criminal continually.
The attorney expressed amazement that numerous media outlets purportedly published negative pieces without contacting Pastor Okafor to get his perspective, despite the seriousness of the accusations.
Additionally, he rejected allegations of a child linked to the cleric, calling them untrue and lacking evidence.
Ajayi maintained that there was no assault, abuse, or other misconduct of any kind and stated that all pertinent information had been given to investigators.
According to Ajayi, Ogala refuted reports that a murder victim was buried on the church grounds when being questioned by police, which he said exposed the carelessness of the charges.
He also denounced public agitation and what he called the careless use of social media, cautioning that freedom of expression does not include blackmail, defamation, or endangering lives.
“The law will take its course. False accusations, no matter how loudly amplified online, do not become truth,” he concluded.
According to reports, the pastor has stepped aside from his pastoral responsibilities. At the same time, the investigation is ongoing, and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is reportedly considering taking disciplinary action against him.
Investigations at SCID, Panti, and Zone 2 are ongoing, and the Lagos State Police Command has informed everyone that sufficient security has been provided for the accused victims.
