The second leg of the Carabao Cup (EFL Cup) semi-final between Manchester City and Newcastle United was played on 4 February 2026 at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City defeated Newcastle United, the defending champions, to go to the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal.

Eddie Howe’s team needed a miracle to defeat Man City after trailing 2-0 going into the second leg. The match, however, concluded Manchester City 3 – 1 Newcastle United (Aggregate: Manchester City 5 – 1 Newcastle United). City cruised comfortably into the Carabao Cup final, having seized a 2-0 lead in the first leg at St James’ Park.

City seized control of the encounter early, going 3-0 up by half-time. In the seventh and twenty-ninth minutes of the first half, Omar Marmoush scored two goals for Man City. Tijjani Reijnders scored the third goal for Man City 32nd minute of the first half.

In the 62nd minute of the second half, Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga scored what could be characterized as a consolation goal.

It was too little, too late to mount a comeback, even if Newcastle closed the gap in the second half.

With this victory, Manchester City booked a tantalizing Carabao Cup final versus Arsenal at Wembley Stadium next month. City’s last trip to Wembley for a cup final ended in a shock FA Cup defeat by Crystal Palace in May 2025, but Guardiola will have the opportunity to make apologies by adding a 19th title to his stellar career.
