With a significant victory over rivals Man City at Old Trafford, Manchester United has returned to winning ways. Manchester United won the 198th Manchester derby, earning three points and advancing to the top four ahead of Saturday’s other games.

At Old Trafford, the new Michael Carrick era got off to an incredible start as Manchester United defeated Manchester City 2-0. Carrick had the ideal start to his temporary managerial career at United. For three games in 2021, Carrick served as Manchester United’s interim manager.

At Old Trafford, the Red Devils dominated and had to wait until the last twenty-five minutes to win. United won the derby thanks to goals from Patrick Dorgu and Bryan Mbeumo. Mbeumo’s goal signified his comeback from the Africa Cup of Nations.

City’s hopes of winning the Premier League have been severely damaged by the loss. With a four-game losing streak since the start of the year, City’s title challenge is rapidly eroding.
