Due to growing tension at Old Trafford, Manchester United fired Ruben Amorim as manager and head coach. After meeting with Director of Football Jason Wilcox and Chief Executive Officer Omar Berrada, Amorim was fired. It was said that his encounter with Wilcox on Friday, January 2, 2026, was combustible.
Before hiring a permanent manager in the summer, the team intends to name a temporary manager for the remainder of the campaign.
Darren Fletcher, the manager of United’s under-18 team, will lead the team when they play Burnley on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
After 14 months in command, Amorim leaves. The team sits sixth in the Premier League during his tenure.
On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Chelsea named 41-year-old Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior as their new head coach, just days after firing Enzo Maresca.
Rosenior, a skilled coach with extensive knowledge of the game, was hired on a six-year contract.
After coaching abroad with RC Strasbourg, where he guided the French team to European qualification for the first time in 19 years in his debut season, he comes to Stamford Bridge.
Rosenior is a gifted football player who began his career as a full-back and winger, playing for Fulham, Reading, Hull City, and Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. During his career, he made around 400 games.
