On Sunday, December 21, 2025, the 35th Africa Cup of Nations competition began in Rabat, Morocco. For sponsorship purposes, the biennial competition is also known as the TOTALEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. After hosting the competition’s finals in 1988, Morocco is hosting it for the second time.
This event will be held during the Christmas and New Year holidays for the first time, from December 21 to January 18, 2026.
African culture and the dynamic energy of African football were magnificently showcased during the opening ceremony, which was illuminated by French Montana, Davido, and RedOne.
Morocco, the host country, and Comoros played the first game. Morocco prevailed 2-0.
USD 10 million will be awarded to the winners, up from USD 7 million for the 2023 competition.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are competing in the tournament in hopes of winning their fourth championship. Nigeria will play Tanzania on December 23, Tunisia on December 27, and Uganda on December 30.
