Wilfred Ndidi, captain of the Super Eagles, has mobilized support for Eric Chelle to stay as the team’s coach even if the Eagles have failed to reach the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 final.
According to captain Ndidi, it is critical that the team’s head coach be kept in his position following the 2025 AFCON.
After the Super Eagles lost to the Atlas Lions of Morocco in the semi-finals, Chelle’s future is still up in the air. The Chelle’s ultimate goal was established by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), that is taking the Eagles to the final of AFCON 2025. Chelle previously failed to qualify for the World Cup following a heartbreaking shootout loss to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Morocco in November 2025.
But Ndidi thinks that in order to enable this gifted team reach their full potential and recover from the setbacks of recent months, the NFF should stick to Chelle.
Ndidi claims that Chelle is a fantastic man and that the NFF ought to retain him in order to maintain consistency. “We should be focused on continuity at this point.”
Some football pundits have stated that the NFF should handle Chelle’s job and that Ndidi has no right to push for his retention.
