FIFA declared the final lineup for the inter-confederation play-off event on Wednesday, March 4, rejecting Nigeria’s protest against DR Congo. Nigeria’s dreams of competing in the 2026 World Cup were dashed when FIFA designated DR Congo as Africa’s only representative.
After the Super Eagles lost to DR Congo in a penalty shootout during the African playoffs, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) petitioned FIFA in December 2025.
