On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a lawsuit brought by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who was requesting court orders to be recognized as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP.
Since Anyanwu’s term as party secretary ended in December 2025, the judge, Justice Mohammed Umar, decided that circumstances had taken precedence over the case.
Anyanwu’s attorney withdrew the lawsuit at the resumed hearing, stating that it was no longer suitable to proceed. The case was then rejected by the court, which did not grant costs.
“We don’t think it is proper for a matter that has been overtaken by events to continue. In the interest of justice, I apply to withdraw this matter to save the time of the court,” he said
Justice Umar dismissed the claim without imposing any costs.
