The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has acknowledged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee sponsored by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as legitimate.

The Commission called the Caretaker Committee, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu as caretaker secretary, to the quarterly gathering of political party leaders on Thursday, February 5. The gathering is designated for just the national chairmen and national secretaries of all registered political parties approved by the Commission.

INEC acted in accordance with the ruling of the Federal High Court, which declared the PDP’s convention in Ibadan on November 16, 2025, to be invalid. It was the first since Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, the INEC Chairman, assumed office.

After the closed-door discussion, Anyanwu told journalists, “Yes, we were invited yesterday as the recognized leadership of the PDP, and we are here to participate in this crucial consultative meeting between INEC and political parties to deliberate on party matters and electoral issues.

“The recent court judgment has effectively resolved the crisis that had been affecting the PDP. The party’s leadership remains intact under Abdulrahman Mohammed and me, and we are fully prepared to reposition the party ahead of future elections.”

Anyanwu said he is ready to resume control of Wadata Plaza, the national headquarters of the party, on Monday.
