The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that 31 governors and 8,453 delegates would attend its 2026 and 8th National Convention, which is set to take place at Eagle Square in Abuja from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28.

In order to elect new executives, evaluate party policies, and determine the APC’s strategic direction, representatives from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory will gather at the convention, which party officials have described as a significant forum for policy engagement and decision-making.

In order to choose national leaders who will steer the party’s activities ahead of the general elections in 2027, the party has announced that it will use a consensus approach. The party primaries that will generate candidates for elective posts in 2027 are anticipated to be run by the new national leadership.

Mohammed Idris, the party’s head of the Media and Publicity Committee and Minister of Information and National Orientation, stated on Thursday, March 26, in Abuja, that all necessary preparations have been made to guarantee a seamless and transparent event. He noted that the committees in charge of operations, logistics, and coordination have finalized their assignments, and security measures have been implemented to protect delegates.

However, not all party members are satisfied with the convention organizers and APC leaders. Dagogo Fubara, a chieftain and Director-General of the States Assembly Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is one of them. Due to the denial of the nomination form, Fubara has taken the party to court. Despite fulfilling the qualifications, he has accused the party of rejecting his aspirant candidacy forms. He stated that he had previously run for a national convention and that the organizers claimed to have produced a small number of the forms.

Fubara claims that despite paying for the forms and meeting all conditions, he was not given the chance to obtain the aspirant nomination forms.

According to him, “They received the money, and we went for clearance. We were cleared in accordance with the rules and regulations of the convention.” As a result, he was taken aback when a small portion of the party claimed that all of the forms had been used.

Consequently, Mr. Fubara sued the party at the Federal High Court in Abuja in an attempt to stop the convention. He claimed that, despite paying N5.1 million for the form, he was wrongfully barred from running for National Vice-Chairman, South-South.

Meanwhile, Mr. Fubara has been suspended indefinitely from the APC by party members and the ward executive committee of Ward 4, Bonny Local Government of Rivers State.
