There are hints that Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate who recently switched to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), will run alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the ADC’s presidential ticket. Furthermore, no candidate is resigning for anyone.
In a few months, Obi and Atiku are anticipated to compete in the ADC presidential primary.
There are internal conflicts within ADC leadership regarding the 2027 presidential ticket. Atiku refuses to step down as Obi’s backers strive for agreement.
Obi must be the flagbearer before Atiku, according to his followers. “Obi or nothing” is their catchphrase. Ahead of 2027, this demand promises political drama.
Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, claims that “Obi is the only traction. Obi is the only meaning. Obi is the only factor. Obi is the only person in ADC that matters.”
Dele Momodu, an assistant to Atiku Abubakar, has cautioned Obi supporters against referring to him as the “best of us,” saying it is demeaning to other ADC members.
Momodu voiced his displeasure with what he saw as Obi supporters’ “obedient” tactic, which demands that he be chosen as the ADC’s presidential candidate in 2027.
Momodu was responding to remarks made by two crucial Obi supporters, Professor Pat Utomi and Aisha Yesufu, who had threatened to withdraw their support if Obi was not awarded the ADC presidential ticket.
The Obidients have pledged that Obi’s candidacy will determine whether or not they support the ADC.
According to Bashir Ahmad, a former media assistant to the late Muhammadu Buhari, Peter Obi’s victory over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will only be determined by a primary election.
The rivalry between the two political titans and their personal interests can tear the ADC apart, as it happened to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.
