Citing the Federal Government’s failure to implement agreed-upon welfare resolutions, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) said on January 3 that it would begin an indefinite, comprehensive strike on January 12, 2026.

The National Executive Council of the group made the decision during an urgent virtual meeting.

The group stated that only if its minimum demands are fully implemented will the possibility of suspending the strike be considered.

The demands include:

  • Re-instatement of FTH Lokoja 5 back to FTH Lokoja.
  • Payment of all outstanding promotion and salary arrears.
  • Full implementation of PAT with arrears captured in the 2025 Budget.
  • Reintroduction and implementation of Specialist Allowance.

On Friday, January 9, 2026, the National Industrial Court (NIC) in Abuja issued an interim order that restrained the NARD. The Attorney General of the Federation filed an ex parte application, and Justice Emmanuel Subilim issued the ruling.
