The case of Nnamdi Kanu has been decided by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which Justice James Omotosho chairs. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, is guilty of seven counts of terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria by broadcasting threats that people would die and the world would come to a standstill.

According to Justice Omotosho, it is evident from the prosecution’s uncontested evidence that the defendant committed acts of terrorism preparation. Justice Omotosho ruled that his repeated calls for sit-at-homes in the South East states and other threats of violence and murder amount to terrorism.

Nnamdi Kanu is categorized as an international terrorist by Justice Omotosho. The judge attributed this to Kanu’s plan to kill Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner at the time, and attack the American Embassy and the British High Commission.
Article 20 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights grants people the right to self-determination, which Justice Omotosho claims is a political right. According to the ruling, Nigeria domesticated the Charter as long as it did not clash with the Constitution. He pointed out that Nigeria is one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign state, as stated in Section 1(1) of the Constitution.

Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), the prosecuting attorney, claims that the verdict will provide comfort to the relatives of the 75 cops who were killed and that terrorism poses a serious threat to humanity. Nnamdi Kanu has not expressed regret or penitence, according to Awomolo. He requested that the death penalty be applied by the court.
