In a fast intelligence-led operation, the Nigeria Police Force saved 76 minors, apprehended three criminals, and stopped an attempted attack and planned kidnapping of dozens of children in Kaduna State.
The event happened in the Kasuwan Magani district of Kaduna State on January 5, 2026, at around 8:00 p.m., after the Kaduna State Police Command got reliable information that suspected bandits were preparing to attack drivers who were transporting children through the area.
The Kaduna State Police Command received credible information on January 5, 2026, that suspected bandits were preparing to attack and abduct drivers transporting children in the region, according to a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
According to the statement, the operation resulted in the safe rescue of 76 minors, both male and female. The minors, who ranged in age from seven to twenty, were discovered to be traveling when the police arrived.
“Upon receipt of the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer, Kasuwan Magani Division, was promptly mobilised with a team of police personnel to the area.
“On arrival, the police team engaged and successfully repelled the suspected attackers, leading to the rescue of seventy-six (76) children, comprising both males and females, aged between seven (7) and twenty (20) years. All the rescued children were unharmed.”
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly conveying the children to different parts of the country for the purpose of child labour and other forms of domestic work.
“The arrested suspects are currently in police custody, while the rescued children have been taken to the Kaduna State Police Command Headquarters for safekeeping, the police said.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, while the rescued children are being kept safely at the Command Headquarters pending the arrival and proper identification of their parents or guardians.”
The police claim that plans are in place to guarantee the children’s correct identification and reunion with their parents or legal guardians.
According to the police, investigations have begun to ascertain the full facts of the incident and identify any further potential participants. After the investigations are over, the suspects will face charges in court.
Additionally, the Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting people and property and asked the public to provide timely, reliable information to support proactive policing.
