Ammunition has been transported to Nigerian sites in Borno and Kaduna by US military aircraft. For the mission, no fewer than three US military planes touched down in Nigeria.

Senior Defence Headquarters officials attested that the supplies were a component of US assistance to Nigeria in its war on terrorism and instability. They revealed that as part of the US intervention to aid Nigeria in the fight against insecurity, the US administration had dispatched the plane with munitions to Nigeria.

Through discussions on cooperative military drills, training, capacity building, and other operational and technology assistance, Nigeria and the US have increased their defence engagements. The military collaboration between the United States and Nigeria includes this delivery.

In addition to sending a few troops to Nigeria before this weekend’s weaponry transfer, the US is looking to set up a drone base for counterterrorism activities. Additionally, 200 more troops would be sent to Nigeria to train the military to combat Islamist insurgents; they will not participate in combat.

In addition to deploying troops, the US government would supply the ammunition and other logistics needed to combat the terrorists in the wake of the bilateral security agreement between the US and Nigeria.
