Hajiya Aisha Isah Yelwa, a Lapai woman, has repaid N330 million that was inadvertently debited to her bank account.
Mrs. Yelwa, a minor trader from Lapai, Niger State, disclosed that on Monday, December 29, 2025, she saw an odd amount in her bank account.
She clarified that she was startled to see a sum she had never dealt with in her life when she checked her account.
She pointed out that there was no transaction narration, no credit alert, and no discernible source of the money.
Mrs. Yelwa went to the bank’s Lapai branch on Tuesday morning to report the discrepancy.
She claimed that after verifying that the funds were the consequence of a system error, the branch manager praised her candor and promptly reversed the transaction.
The N330 million was promptly refunded. Many Nigerians have praised Hajiya Yelwa’s move, calling it a potent reminder that honesty endures even in the face of financial adversity, because the woman put integrity before self-interest.
Faiza Abdulkadir, a cleaner in Maiduguri, Borno State, who makes N30,000 a month, refunded N4.8 million that had been inadvertently debited to her account in August 2025.
