There is a popular saying that many hands make a job light.

This saying cannot be truer than now that the State is passing through the course of development in all facets.

Any person who has lived in other parts of the country cannot fail to notice that

The state is at present meeting up with others in many respects.

For instance, the people of the State who were unable to take full control of the economy, including the primary production and service sectors are now able to do so.

Politically, the State is beginning to make its impact felt at the national level, as indigenes of the State have begun to get key positions.

Educationally, although the State is still listed as educationally disadvantaged, it has been making giant strides in this direction.

Given our abundant natural and human resources, we as a people could reach the limits of possibilities.

Yet we may never realize our goals of advancement unless we pool our resources.

Unless, like one people, we agree to shed the burden of poverty ineptitude, and mundane existence then, can we move forward? One may however ask, why is it so difficult for us as people to agree on a common interest?

Why is it that we all insist on being leaders instead of followers?

Indeed, as the adage goes, to be a good leader you must be a good follower.

Therefore, those who aspire to positions of leadership must first be humble enough to accept the leadership of someone else.

Truly, the solution to our problem is not far-fetched it lies in the abdication of our divine tendencies and the cultivation of the “can-do” spirit as it is the practice among indigenes of many States of the federation.

In this regard, it becomes imperative and profitable for our people to go into those many trades which have been found to constitute the prop of the economy but which our people sadly are scarcely found in them

Certainly, we are a blessed people and with our abundant human and natural resources, the least we can do, therefore is to give as much support as we can to the state administration and to support those of us who venture into productive enterprises to enable them to aspire to the zenith of such ventures.

In politics, it is said there is no permanent enemy or friend but permanent interest, and the interest of all Cross Riverians should be Cross River State. Therefore, in whatever position we find ourselves our common interest must remain our State and we must work together for its growth and development.
