According to recent news sources, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a previous NNPP presidential contender, and Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, are considering forming an alliance for the 2027 election.
According to reports, they are attempting to develop a joint presidential ticket under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is supported by the coalition. It is anticipated that the planned alliance will run against the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, for the ADC’s 2027 presidential ticket. According to reports, a committee including supporters of both Obi and Kwankwaso has been established to promote the collaboration.
Kwankwaso is quite prominent in some regions of the North, particularly Kano, whereas Obi enjoys great support in the South. Both individuals are part of political movements, Kwankwasiyya and Obidients, which have millions of supporters.
A successful coalition, according to analysts, would help unite opposition votes against the ruling APC.
Although Kwankwaso has not confirmed a pact with Obi, he has previously said that he is open to coalitions.
The two men had previously tried to unite, but their discussions broke down after they couldn’t agree on a candidate and running mate. The question of who will lead and who will seek for vice president remains unclear.
According to reports, the Obi/Kwankwaso combination has the support of former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who favors a united opposition.
Only time will tell if the partnership will succeed at this point because both men must overcome the obstacle of Atiku Abubakar, who has stated that he will not resign for anyone.
