Two members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who are supporters of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, have withdrawn their support for the impeachment attempt against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
Peter Abbey, who represents the Degema State Constituency, and Sylvanus Enyinna Nwankwo, the Minority Leader of the Assembly, who represents the Omuma constituency, have advised their fellow legislators to exercise moderation and permit communication to preserve stability in the state.
On Monday, January 12, 2026, the lawmakers issued a statement urging the Assembly to consider other options to resolve the issue.
They concurred that Fubara and Odu had violated the list of constitutional violations in the impeachment notice. Nevertheless, they stated that the Assembly must balance mercy and justice.
They asserted that party considerations must yield to Rivers State’s paramount interest. The Assembly would be judged by history based on the decisions it makes during this crucial period.
“The peace of Rivers State is paramount. This is a moment for reflection, dialogue, and statesmanship,” the lawmakers said. The lawmakers emphasized that in the end, justice, wisdom, and truth would triumph.
