With a strong team, the Super Eagles have swiftly moved past their disappointment at losing out on the World Cup and are dominating in Morocco.
Mozambique, who placed third in Group F with three points, will now play the winners of Group C. Mozambique is participating in their first AFCON knockout stage after advancing as one of the top four third-place teams. After losing two of their Group F games, the Mambas defeated Gabon 3-2 to stop a 40-year wait for a in the continental finals and guarantee their advancement to the next round.
Mozambique, currently rated 102nd in the world, must overcome a team that is 74 spots higher than them. They are participating in the AFCON knockout stages for the first time.
The match on Monday January 5, 2026 is Mozambique’s most difficult test to date as they attempt to defeat Nigeria for the first time after losing four of their five previous encounters and drawing one.
Nigeria has a strong team with some of the best strikers in the tournament, but the Super Eagles still need to strengthen their weak defence as they aim for their fourth championship.
