According to US President Donald Trump, he gave the order to launch multiple attacks on terror targets in Northwest Nigeria. Trump called the organization “terrorist scum” and said the Christmas Day strikes were “powerful and deadly.”

According to a news statement from the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), the strikes on Sokoto State were deemed to have killed many terrorists.

At least one of the projectiles was fired from a warship, according to a Pentagon video.

Following airstrikes on terrorist targets in the Northwest, the Federal Government of Nigeria confirmed Friday morning, December 26, 2025, that Nigeria is still working with international partners, including the United States, in a structured security cooperation effort to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

The government stated that the action was the consequence of continued intelligence cooperation and strategic coordination with partners in a news release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry claims that as a result of the collaboration, airstrikes in the Northwest have precisely struck terrorist targets in Nigeria.

It clarified that the cooperation respects Nigeria’s sovereignty and international law while adhering to bilateral understandings and international practice, such as intelligence sharing and strategic coordination.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria confirms that Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism,” it states in part.

The Ministry said: “In line with established international practice and bilateral understandings, this cooperation includes the exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination, and other forms of support consistent with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security.”

The administration emphasized that terrorist attacks against any group are still reprehensible and that safeguarding civilians is still at the heart of all counterterrorism initiatives.

Nigeria has reaffirmed that the protection of civilian lives, maintaining national unity, and defending the rights and dignity of all citizens—regardless of their faith or ethnicity—are the top priorities in all counterterrorism operations.

The Ministry said: “Terrorist violence in any form, whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities, remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security.”

The Ministry added that while bolstering national security and intelligence capabilities, Nigeria continues to collaborate with partners to undermine terrorist networks, interfere with their financing and logistics, and stop cross-border threats.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it would maintain in touch with pertinent parties and update the public via official means. The revelation coincides with the United States’ announcement that, in response to the recent terrorist activities, it will be providing more assistance to northern states to strengthen security operations, monitoring, and counterterrorism initiatives.
